Meet Cherie Carter! Mrs. Carter is in her 18th year of teaching, with the past 5 years at Yale Public Schools. She is the instructor for Biology I, Biology II, Geology, Environmental Science and Equine Science and partners with Ms. Keeley as a Senior Class sponsor. Though she is originally from Yelm Washington, she attended Oklahoma State University where she earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
When asked about her family, she told us, “My husband and I have four children between us - all of which are grown and live in other states. Two of the kids are engineers, one is finishing her degree to teach elementary and the other works at a museum. My husband retired in September, after 36 years as a Professor of Agronomy at OSU. He had to learn the proper way to do laundry!!!”
LIFE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL
During summer break, Mrs. Carter enjoys traveling with her husband to compete in barrel racing her horses and visiting the grandchildren (and their parents). If that was not enough to keep them busy, they also raise commercial cattle and currently have approximately 90 head.
If she won the lottery, Mrs. Carter claims she would train horses on a full-time basis and write short stories. Her spirit animal is a horse and she shows off her YHS school spirit by attending as many school events as her schedule will allow.
ABOUT SCHOOL LIFE
Mrs. Carter believes positivity from everyone makes for a “good day” at school and she is inspired by the young people she works with each day. “The best thing about being a teacher is when the students “get it,” and you can see the light bulb come on!” stated Mrs. Carter. The wisdom she wishes to share with her students is “be honest and productive. Hate takes up too much energy!”

We are excited for our partnership with Oklahoma State University and to have Introductory Psychology taught by Kaylie Bechtel right here on our campus. There are 20 juniors and seniors enrolled in this free college class and they will be earning 3 credit hours this semester. Senior Coby Prather said he is looking forward to the class because "it is not a basic class you usually take in high school." Another senior, Gage Tillison, told us he is taking this class because "it's free, a new experience, and fills in my 7th hour gap." Plans are already in motion to provide additional college classes next semester.
